Weed & Morning Sickness – Yes? No?

I’m going to open the door – the smoking weed while pregnant door. I’d love to hear from moms who have smoked while pregnant and their experience.

The first time I was pregnant, I had no morning sickness. I smoked during the first trimester anyway, cutting back from how much I normally did. From there, it was a once in a great while thing. Towards the end, I took about one hit a week.

I’m pregnant again now, and this time around the sickness is here. I’m feeling significantly better now as I inch into the second trimester, and I’m wondering if I can continue justifying smoking.

Like many things with pregnancy, there just isn’t a lot of research or studies. Which makes sense, because most people don’t want to put an unborn baby at risk to conduct a study. The studies that have been done are likely skewed – the mom smoked pot, but also drank alcohol and/or smoked cigarettes, things of that nature, so it’s hard to pin down what’s what.

As I live in a state where marijuana is not yet legal, I’m also of course concerned about it coming up in my urine tests. It did not happen the first time around. Maybe they only test if something is wrong. But who knows? The last thing I need is CPS knocking at my door.

I had a friend who smoked pot while pregnant. If people were smoking, she’d take a hit. She definitely cut back. And her kid turned out to be (literally) gifted. Of course, you can’t just use that example as an excuse to go nuts, because you just don’t know the exact circumstances.

I think it might boil down to the fact that every woman is different, every pregnancy is different, and every baby is different. What might harm one won’t harm another, and you just don’t know.
